We are delighted to announce that the new Bremore ETSS Radio station was set up this year. 10 students were trained by RTÉ Gold Radio Presenter Eric Moore. Next year all Transition Year Students and a selection of interested students from other year groups will be given an opportunity to receive radio station training. We are really looking forward the podcasts and radio shows which will be broadcasted throughout the school.
Why do we have a school radio?
Junior Cycle Key Skills
The Junior Cycle Framework (2015) focuses on providing students with opportunities to develop a range of key skills.
Training with School of Jock and working College Radio is an ideal way to provide students with the opportunity to develop each of the Key Skills. By working together in small teams, students learn and practice the skills of working with others including co-operating. Each student also has a specific role (e.g. Producer, Presenter or Researcher) so they must organise and manage themselves and be able to think creatively and independently so they can carry out that role.

Transition Year (TY)
According to the Department of Education and Skills "Transition Year offers learners an opportunity to mature and develop without the pressure of an examination. It also provides an opportunity for learners to reflect on, and develop an appreciation of, the value of learning in preparing them for the ever-changing demands of the adult world of work, further and higher education and relationships."
School of Jock offers TY students the opportunity to build meaningful relationships with schoolmates while learning about the media and improving their communication, organisation and ICT skills.
Leaving Certificate (LC) English
Working with a team of other students on the College Radio team; researching, agreeing and recording the content allows students to enhance their powers of discrimination and interpretative abilities in the media, as required by the LC English Curriculum (Pg 4).
In addition, students will have the opportunity to explore the language of the media. They will be encouraged to foster a respect and appreciation for language used accurately and appropriately and a competence in a wide range of language skills oral competence, through dialogue, group discussion and oral presentations/ performances, as specified in the LC English Curriculum (Pg. 7 & 9).
