At Bremore Educate Together Secondary School, in line with our vision, we aim to create a vibrant, welcoming school community to which every student feels a real sense of belonging. all members of the school community, whatever their social, cultural, belief or background, work together in an atmosphere of dignity and respect.
Every year, we celebrate Stand Up Awareness Week. This week is an opportunity for us to look at how they can make our school environment safe and supportive places for LGBTI+ students. At Bremore ETSS, we use this week to educate our school community on the LGBTI+ community and issues they face. It is a chance to celebrate diversity in all forms, and come together to encourage a safe environment where EVERYONE is free to be themselves, not just the LGBTI+ members of our community.
We encourage anyone to join the Stand Up Awareness Committee, as it is a great opportunity to meet new people and help contribute the school community. This year, our community worked on a bake sale, in aid of our rainbow garden, produced information posters and organised events for the week, like a LGBTI+ Quiz, rainbow jumper day and movie afternoon. We are also planning to start a GSA – a Gay Straight Alliance in which students come together to plan more events, help create a safe space for all, and make friends!
