Radio Station

Radio Station

We are incredibly lucky and part of a minority here in Ireland to have a fully functional, state of the art radio station. Having a school radio station has meant training for staff and students in how to use the mixing desk, fading audio levels, cables, microphones, using the Cartwall and Soundwire broadcasting software.

Typically, our TY students have an opportunity to have in-house training with Eric Moore broadcaster/presenter on RTE Radio Gold. Eric’s inherent love for all things radio and infectious personality has inspired many of our TY students to become part of the Radio Station team. These students are involved in broadcasting during break times, setting up music playlists, interviewing, recording podcasts and being a conduit for relaying important school information.

The radio station has become an integral part of Bremore ETSS school life brightening up lunch times, allowing students a platform in which to share their voiceand keeping us all happy and entertained on Fridays with their upbeat playlists. The radio station is an invaluable tool for education and an asset to any CV (Curriculum Vitae).

Students who become involved in the radio station are developing their research skills, their interpersonal skills, their communication and presenting skills, their technology skills, and their self-confidence.

There are ample employment opportunities for school leavers with experience in radio:

They may be interested in pursuing:

Journalism either written or broadcast- the journalist records and reports events.
Researcher - builds the programme and the flow of interviews, finds out stuff so the host does not have to.
Presenter - personality, improvisor, firewall, understands the flow of a radio show. (Invaluable in any profession)
Programme Director - Liaises between the presenter and researcher.

Engineer – understand the technology involved in sound/music production.

TY Student M: “It’s an amazing experience and a pleasure working in the radio station.I’m able to communicate with the students of our school, giving news, announcements and music. We also have a team of very friendly people at the radio station”.
