3rd Year Geography students visited Causey Farm in Co. Meath.
We began the day by baking soda bread in the barn and while it baked we got to meet the farm animals (cattle, hens, geese, pigs, ponies, donkeys, goats, llamas, alpacas... we even saw a camel roaming one of the fields!).
We then had a tour of the farms and got to explore two pastoral and one arable farm. Students were able to identify the inputs, processes and outputs of each farm and we got to try some of the farm-grown corn while we walked.
Following this we took a tractor-trailer ride to the bog where we discovered how the bogs were formed (10,000 years ago!) and the history surrounding them. We ended the day with bog-jumping which was great fun for both students and teachers!
A huge thank you to Moya, Donnacha and Andy who were fantastic guides and thank you to Matthew the farmer who spoke to us and answered lots of questions about what life is like on a farm. A brilliant day had by all!
