On Tuesday our second year students met with a representative from Action Aid Ireland Jo - Ann Ward. During the meeting students had a conversation about our perception of poverty and how it is often seen through different stereotypes. Jo - Ann also discussed the equality based approach that Action Aid Ireland promotes through their various projects internationally. This involves a range of campaigns in relation to issues such as women's or children's rights. Students also discussed their recent sculpture project on the theme of 'Poverty' and talked about their own approaches to representing this sensitive and complex issue. It is planned that in coming months students will open their own Etsy shop to sell their projects to fundraise money for Action Aid Ireland.
Below see some of the sculptures and prints created by our second year students who tried to represent this issue from their own perspective.
