EU Strategy on Children’s Rights

Congratulations to our students who worked on the child-friendly version of the EU Strategy on Children’s Rights over the last few weeks. The Strategy has been produced in partnership with our students. We are very proud of our students. This is a groundbreaking document.

Two groups of children and young people from two schools in Dublin, Ireland, were brought together by the Centre for Children’s Rights at Queen’s University in Belfast, Northern Ireland. They worked together to decide how the key messages of ‘The Plan’ should be explained to children. The students discussed the use of language, presentation and design of the document.

The European Commission today during the press conference launch gave special thanks to Bremore Educate Together Secondary School, Kathy and Janice, and students Hamilton, Alex, Stuart, Katie, Joseph, Molly and Niamh and St Joseph’s Secondary School (Rush), Darren, Judy, Kevin and Louise, and students Ellie, Cohen, Mollie, Joshua, Christopher, Evan, Jake, Kelsie, Monika, Cordelia, Stephen and Oisin.

I would also like to say thank you to our students parents who supported their children’s engagement with this project.

This is the second such project our school has undertaken with Professor Laura Lundy. We look forward to working on similar projects with Professor Laura Lundy and Dr. Michelle Templeton from Queens University Belfast!

Our students have undertaken groundbreaking work to ensure that this work will be accessible to all children. Maybe some of our students will continue this work in the future, they may choose to study Children’s Rights or European Policy when they go on to University and maybe they will become experts in the field of Children’s Rights! The future is bright!
